Medication & Diving

 

Medication and drugs are an intriguing part of humanity. Not only is there the practice of taking medication as a therapy, but mind and body altering substances from a major part of man's social and recreational pursuits as well.

 

Diving, being subject to submersion and the effects of gas under pressure, represents an important variable within which to consider the safety, effectiveness and potential dise-effects of medication. Not only do drugs potentially affect diving, but there is also the interaction between diving and the medication and the underlying condition to consider.

 

This presentation provides an overview of an approach to assessing medication and diving with several common examples to provide essential background and to illustrate the principles of risk assessment for divers.
