Patent Foramen Ovale
Patent Foramen Ovale represents a potential risk factor for paradoxical venous gas embolism. It is associated with unpredicted episodes of neurological decompression illness, inner ear DCI and skin DCI (marbling).
This presentation reviews the current literature surrounding the importance and clinical decisions that need to be made regarding divers with possible PFO's and also introduces recent research using pulse oximetry to identify (screen) PFO's.
